Welcome to the fifth private grid Sprints session hosted by the QLD 86 BRZ Car Club for 2023. We have booked our own private grid which will be limited to those booking through the club.
To ensure these events remain financially viable for the club to host, we will likely extend an invitation to members of other car clubs (with similarly paced cars) . All of the normal benefits of a private grid will still apply, such as ensuring cars are ordered from fastest to slowest for each session and knowing that you are participating with likeminded people who respect each other and our time on the track. Pricing is identical to that of QR but has the benefits outlined above and not being grouped with cars from the general public.
Below is some information on how sprints works and the requirements. If you have any questions, please see the bottom of this page for details on how to contact us.
All participants must complete both steps 1 and 2 outlined above. Please ensure you have registered with QR via their website no later than 12:00pm on the Friday before the Sprint session as this is when QR close the online sign in process. If you have registered online, on the day you will be able to join the express queue when signing in. Otherwise, you will need to join the standard queue and will likely be charged a manual sign on fee by QR.
Additional information on how QR runs their sprint sessions, clothing requirements and vehicle requirements can be found at:
** General Practice upgrades (Super Sprints) are now purchased directly from the QR website as outlined above. While the process has changed, the price is still the same. **
** A Motorsport Australia Speed License is required for anyone entering sprints (QR no longer accept AASA or Racers licences). For first timers who have never done sprints at Queensland Raceway, you will need to purchase a day license via the QR website (see step 2c above) or an annual licence from https://motorsport.org.au/licence/introduction. **
** Timers are available for hire for $30 directly from QR on the day with a credit card hold form filled out (please don’t forget to return these on the day as timers cost $700 if you accidently take it home). Timers are not mandatory and if you wish, there are many apps for your phone that you can use to time your laps. While not very accurate if just using your phone, when paired with an external GPS unit this is extremely accurate. The RaceChrono Pro app (or Harry’s Lap Timer) paired with a Garmin Glo 2 or RaceBox Mini GPS unit are popular choices amongst club members. If you do hire a timer from QR your lap times will be published to Natsoft Race Results. **
QR Sign on for sprints starts at around 11:00am although you need to be earlier if you want a secure a pit bay. We have an 86/BRZ pre-driver briefing at 12:15pm sharp before the main briefing.
For sign on you are required to have photo I.D as well as your Motorsports Australia licence (or proof of purchase of the Motorsports Australia licence i.e confirmation email). At sign on you can hire your timer for the afternoon. The timer can be fixed to anywhere on the car (inside or outside) as long as the red part is facing down. Cars must display a race number on their left side, if you do not have a preferred number one will be allocated to you, laminated numbers can be picked up at sign on.
The QR Driver’s Briefing for Sprints starts at 12:30pm. All drivers MUST attend the QR briefing at 12:30pm in addition to the 86/BRZ pre-driver briefing at 12:15pm.
Cars are on track from 1:00pm.
Four 5 lap sessions are delivered which count for points. The first two sessions are on the Sprint layout followed by two sessions on the Clubman layout. QR will then generally have a short Passenger Lap Session followed by bonus laps which is typically on the National layout with the remaining time available.
Paper time sheets are no longer printed by QR but timing will be live to Natsoft (http://racing.natsoft.com.au/results/) during the session and all lap times (from people with timers) posted to the same site after the event.
